How does laser resurfacing work?

A fractional laser makes tiny columns of heat in your skin and leaves the skin around each one untouched. As those small areas heal, your skin makes new collagen and sheds some of the pigment left by sun damage.

Only a fraction of your skin is treated in each session, so it heals faster than it would after a fully ablative laser, which removes the whole outer layer.

The days after

After. Wear a high-SPF, broad-spectrum sunscreen every day, and keep out of direct sun for at least a week. Use gentle products to keep your skin clean and moisturized, and skip exfoliants, retinoids, and strong actives for a few days.
